Welcome to Informal Trader Application
Informal trade is a rapidly growing feature of the South African economy. Street traders in priority areas have been provided with trading facilities and more trading facilities will be made available in areas of the CBD set aside for informal trade as part of the on-going regeneration of the area. Our objective is to assist street traders to establish national alliances of street vendors, to enable them to speak with one voice in influencing policies and legislation for the benefit of street vendors and informal traders.

All informal traders who operate in the City of Joburg need to be registered and be in possession of a trader permit issued by the Department of Economic Development at the City of Joburg. This includes anyone trading on sidewalks, in containers, spaza shops, public open areas, special events etc

You can apply for a permit in a specific trading area, e.g., African Craft Market or linear market, etc. Containers are only allowed in designated areas. If there is no available space your name will be placed on a waiting list and will be allocated next available stall.
